How does the Laser work?
What does LASER stand for?
Laser is an acronym for ‘Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation’.
What does the light do?
Light therapy is also known as photobiomodulation. Particles of light called photons are emitted from the laser and absorbed by the tissues that the laser is directed at. The cells stimulated by the laser respond by undergoing a series of reactions to improve tissue repair and increase in the multiplication of cells.

What is Class 4 Laser useful for?
Treatment with a Class 4 Laser is an adjunct to traditional medicine. It is best applied after obtaining an accurate diagnosis and in conjunction with the appropriate medication and rehabilitation. The LASER system has a number of preset programs which determine the output based on the species, size, colour and thickness of hair coat, and the issue being treated. This also determines the treatment time.
It can be used for:

Ligament and tendon injuries to reduce pain, swelling and cross-sectional area.

Osteoarthritis and joint disease.

Back pain.

Wound healing, including burns, helping to decrease scar tissue.

Nerve regeneration.
Class 4 lasers cannot be used to treat conditions of the eye as it can cause damage to the retina (which is why special glasses need to be worn during treatment). It should not be used over:

Actively bleeding sites.

The uterus when the animal is pregnant.

Testicles.

Cancer, including melanomas and sarcoids.

Sites which have recently had injections, including vaccines.

Growth plates in bones.

Over the heart in animals with cardiac disease.
